Maybe you’re new to Fortnite and are struggling with a few things. Or perhaps you’re someone who wants to get a running head start. Whatever the case, we have a few tips that we think will make a world of difference in your game. Take a look.
1. LAND ON THE ROOF EVERY TIME
If you want to start off on the right foot, then you need to land on the rooftops. That’s because the upper decks usually contain chests. This gives you instant access to a lot of things that you will need and all at once. It also gives you a chance to farm for wood before the chaos starts.
2. LOOT EARLIER ON (AND QUICKLY)
Don’t stop looting at your first chest. You should always be on the hunt to improve your loadout. And this means you should be looting as much and as early in the game possible. Remember, at the beginning, other players are doing their best to find the materials they need as well. So they won’t be focused on taking you out. This is a great opportunity to get the most you can without having to watch your back as intently.
3. MAKE POTIONS YOUR TOP PRIORITY
You have two health bars–the green one and the blue one. The fuller these bars are, the longer you can withstand being shot at and the more likely you are to win your shootout. The key to making sure that both bars are as full as possible is to make taking your potions a top priority. This means that you should take your slurps, minis, full shields, and chug jugs as soon as humanly possible. Even if you only have one gun, take your potion. Even if you have zero building materials, take your potion. Even if you have a clear shot you could take, take your potion. Take your potion.
4. MANAGE YOUR INVENTORY WISELY
If you want to win at Fortnite, then you need to be very careful about what you choose to fill your slots with. You need to keep everything balanced. For instance, don’t waste space with potions. Take them immediately and then fill that space with your latest found weapon. Your slots are precious, so manage them very wisely.
5. DON’T STOP MOVING
The best way to make it harder for someone to snipe you is to move as much as you can. As they say, it’s much more difficult to hit a moving target. It doesn’t matter if you’re healing or building a fort, you need to duck, jump, rock from side to side and occasionally crouch. Even small movements can help you to dodge a bullet.
6. MOVE STRATEGICALLY
Not only should you move in order to dodge random shots, but throughout the entirety of the game you should always move with purpose. What does this mean? Well, it means that you should always consider what areas make you the most vulnerable. A good example of this is running in open fields. If you can, you should avoid this at all cost. Instead, try running along the edge of the field–along the edges of the mountain and rock formations. Use trees as barriers and shades. Only run out in the open when you have no other choice. Crouch when possible.
7. BUILD, BUILD, BUILD
In Fortnite, the most powerful weapons are your building materials. Stone, wood, and metal can all be used to create barriers between you and your enemy. Not only that, but they can be used as a way for you to get higher ground and take them out. If you can’t build, then you’re going to have a hard time winning. So practice your building–both defensively and offensively. Harvest materials every chance you get. When you become a master builder, you become a master at Fortnite.
8. REMAIN QUIET
There are two things that every player must do if they want to be counted among the last three players in Fortnite. One, they should search for players to kill. And two, they should hide from players that are searching for them. While the first is pretty self-explanatory, many people struggle with the other. If you want to hide successfully from the enemy, you must do your best to remain quiet. This means you should avoid unnecessary shooting. You should avoid chopping down of wood in one place for too long. Just. Be. Quiet. Silence can be a tool when used wisely.
9. ONLY ENGAGE IN FIGHTS IF YOU’RE VERY LIKELY TO WIN
So you’re running up behind someone in the middle of a field. They’re pretty far away and you can barely see their heads, but you’re carrying a long range so you’re confident. If you can keep up with them long enough to aim then you may kill them. If they don’t jump to the right then you may kill them. If you can hide behind that tree, you may not be seen. The problem is there are a lot of if’s and maybe’s in this situation. You should only engage the enemy if you are sure that you have a very good chance of winning.
10. USE THE STORM AS A TOOL
Most people get anxious when they see that storm coming in. In fact, a lot of people drop whatever they are doing so that they can get as far away from it as possible. And while this can ensure that you’re not eliminated by it, you could be missing out on an opportunity to use the storm to your advantage. Don’t look at the storm as a villain, think of ways to use it as a tool. For instance, you could always stay just on the outskirts of it to catch stragglers who are coming out of it.
